Fundación MEDINA is a Research Organization focused on the discovery of new compounds and innovative therapies for unmet medical needs.

Fundación MEDINA is a non-profit public–private partnership between Merck Sharp and Dohme de España S.A., the Consejería de Salud and the Consejería de  Innovación, Ciencia y Empresa from the Junta de Andalucía, and the University of Granada.

Located in the Parque Tecnológico de las Ciencias de la Salud in Granada, its foundations come from the former Merck Basic Research Center in Madrid (CIBE), including over 50 years of experience in drug discovery from natural products and preclinical evaluation of drug candidates.

Leveraging the expertise of the Merck scientific team, MEDINA has enlarged the scope of its activities willing to become a center of know how and translational research among different key players in Academic and Spanish Health Systems Research.

MEDINA focuses its research activities on two different areas:

• the discovery of new leads from microbial natural products in top priority therapeutic areas identified by the Spanish Health Systems.

• the evaluation of potential cardiovascular liabilities and adverse drug metabolism effects of drug candidates in its high throughput ADME/TOX screening platform.
